Do I need to have an Internet service provider or two name servers before I can register the domain name I want?
- A domain name applicant must ensure that they have coordinated for at least two sources of Domain Name service for the desired name. A DNS name server ensures that the registered domain name may be contacted by Internet services. DO NOT arbitrarily list the hostname and IP address of a name server without the prior authorization of that hosts maintainer (typically your ISP). Listing the hostname and IP address of a name server without prior authorization may result in a fee being charged by the ISP for use of the DNS service. Failure to coordinate for name service will additionally make the domain name unreachable through any Internet service.
