InterNIC Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be notified before or after updates to any host, domain, or contact record I'm associated with are completed?

Each contact can choose to be notified before or after updates are completed for records that they are associated with. Whenever a contact is notified, they will have the opportunity to Acknowledge or Not Acknowledge the update request. If the request is Not Acknowledged, and the update has already been completed, the change will be reversed. Otherwise, the request will be processed if the update request is acknowledged. By using the contact template, a contact can choose to be notified about updates to records one of three ways:

BEFORE-UPDATE

If a contact submits an update for a domain name and a second contact of that domain has used the contact template to specify BEFORE-UPDATE, that contact will be notified before the record is updated. Use of the BEFORE-UPDATE option should be considered carefully because it may delay updates to domain records. Choosing BEFORE-UPDATE on the contact template specifies that type of notification for all domains the contact is associated with.

AFTER-UPDATE

If this option is chosen on the contact template, a contact will be notified after an update to the domains they are associated with are updated. Keep in mind, no domain will be updated unless the request is submitted by a contact for the domain or the domain name holder gives authorization. AFTER-UPDATE is the default option if no other type of notification is selected.

NOT-CARE

This means that a contact does not care if the domains he or she is a contact for are updated. That contact will never be notified about any updates to database records.
