GENERAL INFORMATION

Dedicated servers are our computers connected to the internet backbone. We configure them on our network and allocate them the necessary bandwidth so that they are functional 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

They are the ideal choice for:

Companies who want to offer web site hosting services

Large corporations who need a lot of processing power, bandwidth or hard disk space to accomodate their online data

Web site design or development companies who do not want to pay enormous sums to the web site hosting companies

Servers currently run on Linux, kernel 2.0.30 with Apache Web Server 1.2.5 (latest official release).Apache Web Server 1.3.2 Beta is under testing and we can install it for you upon request.We promptly follow technological and academic advances and upgrade our machines regularly. Optionally, Apache-SSL with SSLeay can be configured to provide strong 128-bit encryption to faciliate Secure Electronic Commerce options. See our security section for more details.

Our servers are fully configured and ready-to-run. Only very limited computer knowledge is required to operate them. Almost everything is automated.

You have total control of your own server. You can modify, set or configure everything as you please. You share the root (or superuser) account with us though this is optional. You might have total root access without letting us know the password but in order to let us perform routine checks and backups on the machine, it is a good idea to inform us when you change the password.

When you get a dedicated server, you can use our DNS service and register the domains on InterNIC using our nameservers TESLA.X5.NET (primary), BLUES.X5.NET (secondary). But this might cause your clients to find us and bypass you very easily. Therefore we can set up your own DNS service and your own nameservers for a minimal monthly fee.

Optionally, we might manage your server, handle InterNIC and all the related matters for you for a fee. All you need to do is to enter into an agreement with us and mail us what you need and we will have it done for you the same day. This gives you more time to focus on the web site design and development work for your clients rather than worrying about the technical matters. Note that this does not mean that we will be doing customized development work for you like C++, CGI scripts, perl etc.

To get you started, all you need is a telnet client. You will be able to handle everything remotely through telnet. We have various programs already installed on the servers that let you handle everything by just typing in a couple of letters. Therefore, setting up a domain, installing scripts on a domain, installing frontpage on a domain, enabling/disabling a domain, modifying users and groups, adding FTP only accounts, adding anoymous FTP access, adding E-mail Only accounts, adding CGI-BIN access, adding sub-domains, managing mailing lists, etc, is all done in a matter of minutes! No previous UNIX or networking experience is required.

SERVER FEATURES

Domains: No limits on number of domains. You can run as many domains as you want on the server.

IP Numbers: No limits on IP numbers. This enables you to provide unlimited domains.

Root Access: You will share complete access to the server systems. We will do all maintenance and backups.

Backups: We store 24 copies of key configuration files on disk, creating a new copy every hour. Additionally we store these key configuration files on a seperate machine every 12 hours, and back mail up every 24 hours. We also back up your entire machine once a week.

Monitoring: Machine monitoring programs make sure programs don't get out of control, that the hardware is working well, that critical programs keep running, and also make sure key configuration files are intact. They monitor the machines 24 hours a day for reliable access.

Anti-Spam: Defense programs filter out spam mail from notorious spammers. Optionally you might add the offensive domains yourself to a text file that is read by our programs hourly.

Login: Dedicated servers present the name of your choice when your customers log in. So when they ftp or telnet in, your system can say "Welcome to mycompany or mycompany.com!".

Customized Name: We will name the machine to whatever you choose so that all logons and messages are unique to your company.

Automation: Complete automated account setups.

Add domains and new users with an easy interactive script

You just type "AC" and answer a few questions.

Remove and maintain domain and users the same way.

Add / Remove FTP access, Telnet access, Anonymous FTP access, E-Mail Access.

Add / Remove / Manage Majordoma Mailing Lists and Disk Quotas imposed on users.

E-Mail: Complete mail server installed (SendMail 8.8.6). Also our PowerMail advanced mail system that enables:

Unlimited Email Aliases: Enables user to redirect mail. Also called EMail Forwarding.

- You may create and remove these aliases by editing a simple text file

- Each alias may be forwarded to a separate individual email address

Unlimited Mailing Lists: Allows you to create a mailing list with a simple text file.

- You may have as many lists as you like, each is password protectable

- Each list can handle up to 5000 addresses

Unlimited Auto responders: This will invoke an automated response to an email message.

- It allows you to drop as many simple text files as you like to respond to specific incoming inquiries

- With our advanced PowerMail account, the requestors address is automatically written to your mailing list

CGI Scripts: The following scripts are installed on the server, ready-to-run:

Processor: Backend CGI script for processing all forms, sending out an email to the administrator and the user, printing out an HTML page and adding the values to a database. See it in action on our order form section.

WWW Board: Allows visitors to post messages in a threaded manner.

Free-For-All Links: Allows visitors to add their URL's.

Whois: Allows you to perform locally whois queries on the InterNIC without linking to their site and display the output in an HTML form.

Guestbook: Allows users to express their views about your site.

Full Site Counter: Easily added to HTML pages. Uses SSI (Server Side Include).

Random Text or Image Displayer: Allows rotation of simple phrases, quotes or images. Uses SSI.

Java Scripts: The following javascripts are installed on the server, ready-to-run. Javascripts make use of their built-in cgi scripts in order to complete their functions. However, no user knowledge or interface is required about the cgi scripts. They can be installed on machine's domains with minimum trouble. See the examples.

Bulletin Board System: Allows the users to create unlimited forums and subscribe users to them. Very flexibly and interactive interface. Complete BBS solution for lively web sites.

GuestBook: Allows users to express their views about your site in a fully interactive fashion. Customized colors make the sites more interesting.

Chat Rooms: Visitors can converse with each other in the rooms defined by the system administrator. Very easy to use.

Form Processor: Allows users to send comments, forms,etc by email to the administrator.

Splatter Board: Lets the visitors post messages the same way post-it notes are being placed on office boards.

Visitor Management System: Lets the administrators to record user information.

FrontPage 98: Microsoft Front Page 98 Server Extensions installed.Microsoft FrontPage takes over your whole web. If you are interested in doing somethings by yourself, this program will disappoint you!

Mailing Lists: Majordomo, a full listserver program, with automated setup procedure handles all your mailing list activities.

Installed Programs:

Wusage 5.0: Free for use with each and every domain on your machine! The powerful Wusage 5.0 program helps your customers determine the true impact of their sites. Its reports tell you who, how, what, and why people are looking at your customers' pages! This advanced web traffic monitoring system normally sells for $75 per domain yet we include it with every machine for use with all the domains on that machine at no charge. It produces graphs, tables, and pie charts (strawberry rhubarb) detailing accesses per hour, per day, and per week. Wusage generates document trails detailing how customers like to travel between web pages on your site. Wusage tells you which pages are most popular on your site.
